WORKS POSTPONED: Due to low temperatures, these works have been postponed for the night of Thursday 15 December. As the forecast for the majority of the week is similar, the situation will be reviewed each morning.

Two weeks of overnight resurfacing works on the A702 at Silverburn are set to begin on Monday 5 December.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will undertake the project over ten nights from 5 to 16 December, excluding Saturday and Sunday nights.

For the safety of workers and road users, the A702 between Easter Howgate and Nine Mile Burn will be closed from 19:30 to 06:30 each night.

During these closures, a diversion route will be in place between Easter Howgate and Nine Mile Burn via Bush Loan Rd, the A701 and the A766. This diversion is expected to add approximately 1.8 miles and 5 minutes to affected journeys.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s Southeast Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close the carriageway during these works, however, we’ve scheduled this during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.”

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.traffic.gov.scot for up-to-date travel information and allowing extra time for their journey.
