BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to resurface one kilometre of the M8 eastbound carriageway prior to Junction 3A, near Bathgate.
The work will take place between 20:30 and 06:00 on the nights of Monday 23 to Friday 27 September, Monday 30 September and Tuesday 1 October.
For the safety of road users and the workforce, the M8 eastbound will be closed at Junction 4 on these nights, with a signed diversion route in place via the A801, A7066 and A779 to M8 Junction 3A. This will add an estimated 4 minutes and 1 additional mile to affected journeys.
During daytime hours on 24, 25, 26 and 27 September, two eastbound lanes will be open with traffic running on both the hard shoulder and Lane 2. Lane 1 will remain closed to allow adequate cooling time for the material due to the depth of construction.
Westbound traffic will not be affected.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve ride quality and safety for motorists using this section of the M8.
“Carriageway closures are essential for safety, however we’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise disruption.
“If you do need to travel during these works, please allow some extra time for your journey.”
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
