RESURFACING THE M8 JUNCTION 4 WESTBOUND OFF-SLIP

August 6, 2024

  • Continuous slip road closure over five nights and four days commences 19 August 2024

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is set to resurface the slip road exiting the M8 westbound at Junction 4, East Whitburn.

Work will commence at 20:30 on the evening of Monday 19 August, with the slip road closed 24 hours a day until 06:00 on the morning of Saturday 24 August. Resurfacing work will be carried out at night, however the slip will remain closed during the day to allow sufficient time for the new surface to cool and for off-site recycling of materials to take place.

Traffic wishing to exit the M8 at Junction 4 will be directed to continue westbound to exit at M8 Junction 4a before returning via the eastbound carriageway to exit at the Junction 4 eastbound off-slip. This will add an estimated 5 minutes and 4.3 miles to affected journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve ride quality and safety for motorists using this slip road on the M8.

“It is essential for safety that we close the slip road during the works and we need to keep the road closed during the day due to the depth of materials that need to cool.

“If you need to travel via this route during the week of 19 August, please allow some extra time for your journey.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
