Motorists using the M80 at Stoneywood are set to benefit from an improved road surface, with Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland planning to resurface approximately 1 kilometre of the northbound carriageway over three nights, beginning on Thursday 22 April.
For the safety of workers and road users, the northbound M80 will be closed at Junction 8 from 20:00 until 06:00 on the nights of 22, 25, and 26 April.
A diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted between M80 Junction 8 Bankhead and Junction 9 Pirnhall via the M876 and the M9, adding an estimated 11 minutes and 10.2 miles to affected journeys.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will significantly improve safety and ride quality for motorists on this section of the M80.
“Road closures are essential to ensure the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.”
