RESURFACING THE NORTHBOUND A1 AT WALLYFORD

May 13, 2021

  • Two overnight weekday carriageway closures 24-25 May 2021

The northbound carriageway of the A1 between Wallyford junction and Old Craighall Junction will be closed for resurfacing from 19:30 until 06:00 on the nights of Monday 24 May and Tuesday 25 May.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface a 950m section of carriageway, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

A diversion route will be signposted between Wallyford junction and Old Craighall Junction via the A6094, A68, and A720, adding an estimated 7 minutes and 2 miles to journeys. The northbound A1 will remain open outwith these closures.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site, in line with Scottish Government guidance.

Emergency services and other relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will significantly improve ride quality and safety for motorists using the A1 at this location.

“It is essential for safety that we close the northbound carriageway during these works, however we’ve scheduled them overnight in order to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding.”
