RESURFACING THE NORTHBOUND APPROACH TO M9 JUNCTION 7

May 25, 2022

  • Three overnight carriageway closures begin Monday 30 May 2022

A section of the northbound M9 is to benefit from a £190,000 Transport Scotland investment in resurfacing improvements, with operating company BEAR Scotland planning to renew approximately 1.1 kilometres of the trunk road.

For the safety of workers and road users, the northbound carriageway of the M9 between Junctions 5 and 7 will be closed from 19:30 until 06:00 on the nights of Monday 30 May, Tuesday 31 May and Monday 1 June.

During these closures, a signed diversion route for northbound traffic will be in place from M9 Junction 5 via the A9, B902 and Bellsdyke Road to South Bellsdyke roundabout. From the roundabout, traffic will be directed via the A905 and the M876 to the M9 Junction 7 northbound on-slip. This diversion will add an estimated 15 minutes and 6 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Due to the depth of construction, one lane of the northbound M9 will remain closed during the day on Tuesday 31 May to allow adequate cooling time for materials, however the hard shoulder will be utilised to ensure two lanes remain open to traffic.

Consultations have taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will significantly improve safety and ride quality for motorists using this section of the M9.

“Carriageway closures are essential to ensure the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
