Motorists using the M876 are set to benefit from an improved road surface, with Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland planning to renew approximately one kilometre of the northbound carriageway prior to Junction 1 over two nights, beginning on Monday 8 March.
For the safety of workers and road users, the northbound M876 will be closed between M80 Junction 8 and M876 Junction 1 from 19:30 until 06:00 on the nights of 8 and 9 March.
During these closures, a diversion route for northbound traffic will be signposted from M80 Junction 8 via the M80 northbound and M9 southbound before rejoining the M876 at M9 Junction 8. This diversion will add an estimated 6 minutes and 5 miles to affected journeys.
Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will significantly improve safety and ride quality for motorists on this section of the M876.
“Road closures are essential to ensure the safety of workers and road users, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible.
“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
