RESURFACING THE SOUTHBOUND M80 NEAR DENNY

October 19, 2020

  • Three overnight road closures from 27-30 October

Three nights of resurfacing works on the southbound M80 adjacent to Denny are set to begin on Tuesday 27 October.

The £277,000 project will see 1,285m of carriageway resurfaced, creating smoother and safer journeys for road users.

To keep roadworkers and motorists safe during these works, the southbound M80 will be closed at this location between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights of 27, 28 and 29 October.

A signed diversion route will be in place from Junction 9 Pirnhall to Junction 8 Bankhead, via the M9 eastbound and the M876 eastbound, turning at Junction 3 Bowtrees to rejoin the M9 westbound and then the M876 westbound. This diversion will add an estimated 11 minutes and 9.9 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the M80 and will greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“It is essential that we close the southbound carriageway to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out these improvements. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
