Motorists using the M9 southbound at Junction 1 Newbridge are set to benefit from an improved road surface, with almost 1.4km of carriageway due to be resurfaced in a £355,000 project later this month.
Work will take place on the nights of Thursday 22, Friday 23, Sunday 25, Monday 26, Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 October. For the safety of the workforce and the travelling public the southbound carriageway of the M9 between the slips at Junction 1 Newbridge will be closed between 20:00 and 06:00 on these nights.
A signed diversion route will be in place during these closures. Southbound traffic on the M9 will be diverted via Junction 1a onto the M90 northbound, to turn at Queensferry and return southbound along the A90 and M90. Traffic will then be diverted across Newbridge Roundabout to re-join the M9 southbound via the Junction 1 on-slip. This diversion will add an estimated 10 minutes and 8 miles to affected journeys.
Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be in place to protect workers and ensure they remain safe on site.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These overnight surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the M9 and will greatly improve the ride quality for motorists.
“We thank road users and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out these works. We’ll do all we can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.”
