Essential road improvements on the A9 dual carriageway North of Allangrange to Tore Roundabout will get underway on Sunday 5 March 2023 for four weeks.

The works are being carried out by BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, to resurface 1,100 metres of the northbound carriageway and improve road drainage, creating safer journeys for motorists.

All improvements will be completed by 6am on Saturday 1 April.

The works will be undertaken in 3 stages.

Stage 1

Between Sunday 5 and Friday 10 March (5 nights), there will be an overnight northbound lane closure from 7pm to 6am, with a 50mph speed limit in place for safety.

Stage 2

From Saturday 11 March, the lane closure will be in place 24 hours a day until 6am on Saturday 1 April, with a 50mph speed limit in place for safety.

During this stage delays to A9 northbound traffic are expected during peak evening times. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and advised to consider altering their journey route or timing.

Stage 3

From Sunday 12 March to Friday 31 March between 7pm and 6am each night, there will be a convoy system in place for safety with a 10mph speed limit on the northbound carriageway.
Restrictions will also be in place on the south side of Tore Roundabout during these times. Drivers entering the roundabout from the A9 southbound, the A835 or the A832 westbound, wishing to travel on either the A835 towards Dingwall or A832 towards Muir of Ord, will be required to divert via the A9 Charlestown Junction.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This road improvement project on the A9 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The traffic management arrangements are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists. We have scheduled the works to take place at a quieter time of year, before the busy tourism season begins and after winter to avoid delays due to bad weather where we can. However, delays are likely and we encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.
