Since the beginning of December, BEAR Scotland has delivered resurfacing and road safety improvements on South East Scotland’s trunk roads worth a total of £4.6 million.
This brings the total value of improvements delivered since BEAR Scotland took over responsibility for trunk roads in South East Scotland to £11.3 million.
The resurfacing projects span sections of motorways including the M8, M9 and M876 to carriageway enhancements on other key routes including the A1, A7, A68, A720 and the A6091.
Over 16km of carriageway was resurfaced across the South East trunk road network over the winter months between December and the end of February, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.
Additionally, safety improvements are being rolled out at sections of the A1, A68 and A702. New signs and roadside safety barriers are being installed on the A1 at Old Craighall. Signage is being improved on the A68 at Craigsford Farm. And on the A702 at Cambwell junction, near Biggar, a new road surface is being installed and signage and roadside safety barriers are being upgraded.
Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland Operating Company Representative for the South East said: “Despite a harsh winter we have continued to make progress in improving the safety and smoothness of journeys for trunk road users in South East Scotland.
“We will continue to focus on improving the service that we deliver for road users by engaging with them, considering new materials and techniques, and keeping them informed of what it is happening on their network.”
