ROAD MARKING IMPROVEMENTS ON THE A977 AND A985

June 1, 2022

  • Two-week programme begins 7 June 2022

  • Overnight works to be completed in eight phases

A two-week programme of overnight road marking refreshment and stud replacement on the A977 and A985 is due to commence Tuesday 7 June.

Work will be carried out in eight phases by Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland.

The current road markings will be replaced with Weatherline road markings, which are more retroreflective, skid resistant and durable, and offer significant carbon savings compared to standard thermoplastic road markings. Defective or missing road studs will also be replaced.

Overnight road closures will be in place from 19:30 until 06:30 on the dates and locations listed in the table below. Diversion routes are listed from west to east.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It is essential for safety that we close the A977 and A985 while these improvements are carried out, however we’ve planned the works to reduce delays as much as possible.

“We’ve split the works into eight phases to reduce the length of each closure and increase work efficiency.

“If you are planning to use the A977 or A985 at night over the next two weeks, our advice is to check what restrictions will be in place and allow extra time for your journey if necessary.

“We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”
