Road users frequenting the M8, M9 and M876 can look out for a brand-new orange 32-tonne gritter named ‘Scotland’s Bravest Gritter’ featuring Royal British Legion Industries’ (RBLI) iconic logo in line with Remembrance.
The new gritter has been named by trunk road operator, BEAR Scotland, which took on responsibility for managing and maintaining trunk roads in south east Scotland in August, to demonstrate its ongoing support for veterans.
BEAR supports the UK Armed Forces community including veterans and reservists and has strong links with the British Army Personnel Recovery centre in Edinburgh and Scotland’s Bravest manufacturing Company in Erskine. It is seeking to enhance this relationship with recruitment support for veterans by working with Career Transition Partnership.
“Its support has helped us grow from a small team of eight to 19, of which 13 are beneficiaries. When BEAR moved their contract to us they immediately recognised the social impact our supported business makes to society and that we can deliver excellent quality goods with on time delivery. Their business choice has had a direct impact on the lives of Scottish veterans.”
BEAR is also a silver member of the RBLI’s recently-launched national veterans supporter club, dubbed the Tommy Club, in recognition of its donations and support. Two ‘Unknown Tommy’ statues, produced by veterans working at RBLI have been erected at BEAR’s offices in Queensferry and Perth.
Mark Godsell, BEAR Scotland commercial director says: “We’re proud to support Scotland’s veteran community by offering relevant recruitment opportunities and support as well as commercially, through the innovative social enterprise, Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company. It will be great to see the state-of-the-art front line gritter bearing the new Scotland’s Bravest name out keeping key routes as safe as possible in winter conditions.”
