A total of 26 resurfacing schemes are planned on trunk roads across South East Scotland in the final quarter of 2024, continuing Transport Scotland’s ambitious programme of investment in the trunk road network.
Road closures will be required to carry out these works safely, however they will be scheduled at night wherever possible to minimise disruption.

On the South East unit’s bridges, major works at Longacre Bridge east of M8 Junction 6 are due to conclude in October, requiring weekend restrictions. Strengthening works on the bridge carrying the M90 southbound over the B9080 at Kirkliston are expected to be complete by the end of December, and the ongoing project to refurbish Westwater Bridge on the A702 will to continue until later in the year.
The project to replace the Kincardine Bridge’s Southern Piled Viaduct is set to take a major step forward in November, with the new viaduct due to open to traffic for the first time.
Work to replace the architectural lighting on the Queensferry Crossing will continue into November.
Several maintenance projects are under way on the Forth Road Bridge, however these are not expected to cause any significant disruption to road users.
