• Overnight closure of M90 on night of Saturday 2 October

SP Energy Networks – the electricity network operator in central Scotland – is carrying out essential upgrade works to improve the network in Kelty and the surrounding area at the beginning of October.

The works will see a 30-strong team deployed to replace overhead power cables and electricity poles that are over 70 years old in places and no longer fit for purpose.

This will ensure the network can continue to operate effectively as more ‘green’ electricity flows through the region as part of the transition from fossil fuels – like coal and gas – to renewable electricity.

To ensure the works can be carried out safely, it will be necessary to close sections of the M90 between 10pm on Saturday 2 October and 6am on Sunday 3 October. Both the north and southbound sections of the motorway will be closed during this time at the following junctions:

• Junctions 2A and 3 – Dunfermline
• Junction 4 – Kelty
• Junction 5 – Fruix

Traffic will be diverted northbound off the M90 on to the A92 through Cowdenbeath – A909 to Kelty – and B996 and B9097 to junction 5 at Fruix. The reverse will apply for southbound traffic. The diversion route is likely to add around 20 minutes to journey times.

“We always work to keep the impact of our works to a minimum and we’ve planned the works to include a weekend overnight road closure when less vehicles will be on the roads, with our teams working through the night to get the job done. We would urge those travelling on the M90 during these essential works to allow more time for their journeys and thank them in advance for their patience and understanding.
