BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be carrying out essential road surfacing improvements on the A9 at Achalone, south of Thurso, starting Monday 16 October 2023.
The project will enhance a section of the A9, between Thurso and Mybster, creating a smoother and safer road for road users.
A lane closure and convoy traffic management system will be in place for 10 days from 7am – 6pm while the works are carried out to ensure the safety of workers and the public. No works or closures will take place on weekends and the project is set to finish on Friday 27 October.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “These maintenance works on the A9 south of Thurso will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for road users.
“Lane closures are essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. We thank the local community and road users in advance for their patience while we complete this project. Road users should try to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot, twitter at @trafficscotland or the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.
Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
