TRAFFIC RETURNS TO A83 REST AND BE THANKFUL

January 2, 2025

  • Traffic returned to the main trunk road at 1pm on Thursday 2 January

Traffic returned to the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful at 1pm today under traffic light control.

The Old Military Road had been used as a precaution since 4pm on Sunday 29 December, in response to a forecast for heavy rain and high winds.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “We took the proactive step to divert traffic using the Old Military Road local diversion route in response to the forecast for heavy rainfall and high winds.

“Monitoring and inspection of the hillside, as well as the improved weather conditions, have enabled us to return traffic to the main A83 trunk road under traffic signal control.

“The use of the Old Military Road again proved to be very successful, ensuring that residents and visitors could continue to access Argyll throughout the festive period despite the very wet conditions, keeping the area very much open for business.”
