UPGRADING SAFETY BARRIERS ON THE A720 AT STRAITON

February 2, 2024

  • Overnight works commence Monday 5 February 2024 for 5 nights

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland set to install a new vehicle restraint system along the slip road exiting the eastbound A720 Edinburgh City Bypass at Straiton Junction over five nights, commencing on Monday 5 February.

To ensure the safety of workers and road users, the A720 eastbound off-slip at Straiton Junction will be closed from 20:30 until 06:30 on the nights of 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 February. During these hours, a diversion route will be signposted via Lasswade Junction, Lasswade Road and Lang Loan, adding an estimated 3 miles and 5 minutes to affected journeys

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders including local authorities and Police Scotland in advance of these works.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It’s necessary for safety to close the slip road at Straiton while we carry out these improvements, however we’ve scheduled the works to take place at night in order to minimise any disruption.

“We’re grateful to road users for their patience and understanding.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
