Updated 18 December 2024: Due to transportation issues, the barrier installation on the A830 south of Mallaig is unable to go ahead as planned. As an immediate safety measure, the area will be coned with an extended 30mph speed restriction in place until a permanent solution is undertaken in January 2025.
Temporary traffic lights will be in use at a section of the A830, south of Mallaig, from 8pm to midnight on Wednesday 18 December due to watercourse embankment erosion which has impacted the roadside verge and safety barrier.
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will install a temporary safety barrier as a safety measure while a permanent solution is planned.
To allow the safety barrier to be installed, temporary traffic lights will be in place from 8pm on Wednesday 18 December. It will be necessary to fully stop traffic in both directions for short periods of 10 minutes whilst the works are carried out.
The 30mph speed limit will also be extended by approximately 300 yards to protect roadworkers and members of the public. The two-way traffic lights will be removed once works are complete.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West representative said, “We thank road users for their patience while we install this safety barrier. Our teams will carry out the works as quickly and safely as possible.
“We have taken steps to minimise disruptions to road users by carrying out the installation at night. Minimal delays of up to 10 minutes may occur.”
“The safety barrier will make the area safe again whilst a solution to repair the eroded area of the verge is developed and implemented.
